An evolving platform: publishing, discovery and promotion designed to work together.
The brief
Create a modern destination for residents, visitors and businesses that can grow with Bilston. The platform needs to showcase places to visit, shops and services, food and drink, music, history, news and events while also supporting the operational work behind town-centre promotion.
From website to town platform
The revamp combines a public-facing discovery experience with structured business and event data. Directory categories, location information, mapping and search help visitors find useful places and activities. Behind that experience, dedicated portals let businesses and venue operators contribute without every update becoming an administrative request.
- Business directory with categories, locations, maps and filters
- Self-service business profiles and controlled publishing workflows
- Event creation and management by participating businesses
- Dedicated music venue and event publishing tools
- Town guides covering visits, food, shops, services and history
- BID services, business support, grants and funding information
Self-service without losing control
The portal model reduces repetitive administration and keeps information closer to the people who know it best. Businesses can maintain their details and promote events through focused workflows, while validation, permissions and consistent data structures protect the quality of the public site.
Custom WordPress development
The build uses WordPress as a publishing foundation with bespoke portal and event-management functionality layered around it. Custom plugins handle business records, category filtering, location editing, maps, event data and front-end presentation. The result remains manageable for content teams while supporting workflows that an off-the-shelf directory theme would struggle to deliver cleanly.
Public experience
Clear mobile-first journeys across businesses, events, music, culture and town information, supported by maps and useful filtering.
Business tools
Purpose-built portals for profile management and event publishing, designed for business users rather than WordPress specialists.
Platform operations
Structured content, permissions, moderation, reusable data and maintainable custom development for ongoing town-centre activity.
SEO, marketing and advertising
The platform is designed to create useful, indexable routes into Bilston: individual business profiles, category pages, event listings, local guides and editorial content. Technical SEO, local search, campaign landing pages, social promotion, paid advertising and analytics work together to turn the website into an audience-building asset.
- Search architecture for businesses, categories, events and local intent
- Content planning across evergreen guides and timely town activity
- Social campaigns that give businesses and events more reach
- Paid promotion with campaign tracking and measurable destinations
- Analytics to understand discovery, engagement and useful actions
An evolving local digital service
Discover Bilston is an ongoing platform build. The website, portals, event tools and growth activity can evolve as businesses participate and new needs emerge. That combination of development, operations and promotion is what turns a redesign into useful local infrastructure.
The goal is not simply to publish more pages. It is to make Bilston’s businesses, events and stories easier to contribute, discover and promote.
